Valerie D. W. Rowe, MA Welcome to NAAAHR Los Angeles! Our 2009 theme is "Deliver and Achieve Excellence: The Courage and Confidence to Lead". Although we do not exclude our goal for NAAAHR Los Angeles is to nurture African American Human Resources Professionals by providing a platform for leadership, personal development, and relevant resources for HR professionals and others aligned with our goals. We have some exciting topics and events planned. Our monthly meetings provide a forum where members can share, enhance their professional development, gain advance strategies and best practices that can be applied immediately, along with resources and leadership on issues affecting your organization, individual career, and quality of work life. I am proud and honored to serve as Los Angeles Chapter President and look forward to the limitless opportunities that lie ahead. A few of my goals as President are to co-create with the Board a solid infrastructure to posture the continued growth of NAAAHR-LA through operational excellent to support a "Members First" approach delivering advanced skill enhancement opportunities, active community involvement and mentorships, networking and partnerships. We are committed to identifying strengths, challenges, opportunities, stackholder value, partners and goals to position the chapter to become the most sought-after results driven, diverse, multi-disciplinary associations for all things HR (in the profession) in Los Angeles. Below are a few NAAAHR-LA key initiatives:
Implement a formal HR Certification Mentorship Roundtable Program for our members promoting achievement of PHR/SPHR certification Addressing the needs of our members and sponsors and serving as a valuable resource to advance HR careers, harness and leveraging human capacities, diversity and accomplish business initiatives. Increase community involvement and impact supporting our local colleges and young people as we help prepare them for the workforce. Boost visibility/structure on our partnership with other professional development organizations. Build a solid platform that enhances our reputation as human resources professionals that make the workplace as good as its promise
I truly believe that Human Resources professionals are the first bastion for organizational effectiveness and stewards of people and organizations dreams. With so many challenges being faced by our country and the ever changing landscape of workplace and employment law, HR professionals also must be the ones "Delivering and Achieving Excellence" in their companies continuously searching for new ideas and opportunities to effectively manage employees’ performance; to implement policies and programs that have a positive outcomes on the bottom line; and to grow in our own professional development. NAAAHR have approximately 1000 members nationally operating over 34 chapters and interest groups throughout the nation, presenting over 400 companies and approximately 60% corporate, 30% entrepreneur and 10% miscellaneous. We invite you to Join Us! It’s an exciting time for NAAAHR Los Angeles Chapter! We are not only committed to serving you we need you and on behalf of the Los Angeles Chapter Board of Directores I hope we can count on your continued support. Just as we are happy to serve, I challenge you to find ways you can serve as well as we continue our quest to "Deliver and Achieve Excellence" in the Human Resources community.
